Rainwater Collection Demonstration
Following a fast-paced, amazingly informative class on Rainwater Collection by Billy Kniffen (above far left) held at the Llano Library, the class headed out to the McFarland Ranch. Bob McFarland (above right) guided us around his beautifully landscaped home and grounds. The home is especially designed to take advantage of every drop of rain that falls. The roof is guttered all around and piping takes it to the rear of the home where it passes through a large filtration system into the 5,500-gallon cistern.
From there it is filtered again before it enters the house for general-purpose use. Further filtration and disinfection by UV light finishes the process to produce potable water.
