Llano Master Gardeners Board Meeting
August 10, 2007; 9:00 a.m.
Berry Street Bakery, Llano
S. Shaw, L. Baker, D. Bonner

On the front porch of the Berry Street Bakery in downtown Llano, Sandy Shaw, president, started the meeting by updating recent events.   They included the information that the park benches had arrived in Llano, but the City of Llano did not have a work order to anchor them into the ground at Pioneer Park.   Also she informed the group that the next monthly meeting, August 16, the Bee Lady, Colleen Gardener from the Bamburger Ranch would give the presentation on “Where Have All the Bees Gone.”   She had presented at the Natural Gardener meeting and was very informative.

Sandy said that she had received an e-mail from Todd Swift, former Llano County Agent, and he and his family were planning to attend the Extension Office Banquet on August 28th.   She said JoAnn Coston, Celia Griffin and Janice Shannon had agreed to decorate the tables.   Sandy said she would encourage all the master gardeners to attend the banquet.   The last update she gave concerned the Junior Master Gardener training.   She said it was well attended.   The members will meet back and make a plan.   They will be working with some of the science teachers in the elementary school.

The purpose of the meeting was to clarify, define and plan some activities coming up on the calendar of the LMGers.   Sandy informed the group that the booklet, Native and Adapted Landscape Plants, an Earthwise Guide for Central Texas developed by Texas Cooperative Extension and the City of Austin and sold by LCRA were available for purchase for $50.00 a box of 50 ($1.00 per book).   The group decided we should purchase a box and have them available to either sell or give away.   They could be kept at the Extension Office.   The LMG could have them available for sell or give away at Heritage Day in October.   If they are sold, they would have to be sold for $2.00 or more per book to make a profit.   The question was raised should we compete with LCRA if we ever wanted a grant from them.

Again Sandy Shaw stated the Colleen Gardener, the Bee Lady, from Bamburger Ranch would be the speaker at the August 18th meeting.   She said was going to bring treats to enjoy before the speaker arrived.   Lillie Baker asked if she should make another refreshment list including the new class.   It was decided to talk to the group on the 18th and let the group decide if they wanted refreshments or not at future meetings.

Respectfully submitted by;

Lillie Baker, Secretary
