Monthly Meeting Minutes
September 2006
Regular Monthly Meeting of Llano Master Gardeners
Thursday, September 21; 5:30 p.m.
Llano County Extension Office
13 members, 4 guests
Dr. Ray Buchanan, presenter
Doris Ellis provided coffee and apple cake for the members.
The meeting opened with the president, Sandy Shaw, introducing the guest speaker, Ray Buchanan. He gave a presentation on Japanese gardening. He had posters as well as a slide show of Japanese gardens he had taken while traveling in Japan. He explained the Japanese used gardens to integrate nature into their entire life. The garden should be a place of calm, quiet, tranquility, and serenity. Landscape of the garden is a design of space outside.
After his informative presentation, the president conducted the regular business meeting. Lillie Baker reported the minutes were on line and Dwight Bonner gave the treasurer report reporting there was $1273.10 in the bank. He had just received the money from the t-shirt sales and would deposit that.
A great deal of time was used to discuss the Pocket Park Project. The city did not grant money but the park was still going forward since the city will pay for plants, draining the sidewalk and removal of the pavement. Todd Swift, county agent, was making a primary plan of the park for presentation. The city will not move the lines that cross almost diagonally from northwest to south east across the site. The lines will effect the size of plants used.
The Heritage Day booth was discussed. Heritage Day is October 21 and the LMG will have a booth and sell plants and give information. Everyone was encouraged to sign up to help work the booth. A pop-up tent was needed in case of rain. It was decided that the group should buy their own to have for all future events. Audrey and Norm Millen agreed to look into the purchase of a popup.
The group was reminded to be thinking about nominations for officers for the coming year. It was stated that a person could hold an office for two consecutive years.
Julie Woodall gave a report on upcoming meetings. It was stated a speaker was still being sought for October, however with the nomination of officers and the upcoming Heritage Day booth, there would be lots of business to discuss.
The Extension Banquet was attended by six members and they all reported finding the food delicious and the meeting informative. Julie Woodall and Sandy Shaw had made the centerpieces of cans filled with wildflowers on all the tables
Sandy Shaw reported there were still a few t-shirts left if anyone wanted one.
Everyone was thanked for the hard work they were doing. Norm and Audrey Millen have been doing a great job on publicity. Julie Woodall reported she was keeping a scrapbook from publications.
The meeting adjourned with a reminder about the next meeting, October 19th.
Respectfully submitted by;
Lillie Baker, Secretary
