Monthly Meeting Minutes
August 2007
Regular Monthly Meeting of Llano Master Gardeners
Thursday, August 16, 2007; 5:30 p.m.
Llano County Extension Office
Colleen Gardener, presenter
Sandy Shaw, president, provided refreshments of lemonade, watermelon and chocolate cake that everyone enjoyed as they signed in and awaited the arrival of Colleen Gardener, Assistant Director of the Bamberger Ranch Preserve in Johnson City. She gave an informative presentation on bees and their importance to growing plants. Many of the members asked questions at the end and expressed interest in raising bees.
After the presentation, Sandy Shaw, president, began the business meeting by having reports. She stated the minutes were on the Llano Master Gardener website for all to view. Dwight Bonner, treasurer, gave the financial report. Because the Llano Master Gardener Association is non profit group, there are few fundraising events or ways to earn money. The only means of replenishing funds are through membership fees, Heritage Day plant sales and the Llano Lawn and Garden Show.
The project reports were then given. Once again documentation of the projects was emphasized. Also the members were urged to work with Barbara Spain on the Library. Part of the agreement of the use of the library for the 2007 class site was to beautify the flowerbed by the sign. It is very important that bed be completed so that the 2008 class can meet at the library.
Patty Kuykendall gave an inspiring presentation on the Junior Master Gardener program being developed this year. She showed some of the materials available and encouraged all the members to help by working with some of the projects they had in mind as well as collect supplies, make copies, help locate/collect free plants as well as donate funds. Some of the projects they will be working on besides working with the teachers in the classroom are day camp and summer camp where students can learn about gardening.
The last report was about the website designed by Lisa Miller. There were many compliments by members about the site.
Sandy Shaw asked the members to step up and be in charge of the booth at Heritage Day on October 20. The person would have a committee of members who would make the handouts, set the work schedule, decide which plants to sell, place the order and pick up the plants and have a class of 2008 signup sheet. Volunteer community hours would be available for working on this project.
Sandy Shaw reminded everyone to attend the Extension Banquet on August 28 at the American Legion Hall. Janice Shannon, Celia Griffin, Joann Coston, Sandy Shaw and Nancy Vollmar would be in charge of the decorations for the banquet.
Respectfully submitted by;
Lillie Baker, Secretary
