Monthly Meeting Minutes

November 2007

Regular Monthly Meeting of Llano Master Gardeners
Thursday, November 15, 2007; 6:30 p.m.
Llano History Museum, Llano

After the very successful dedication of Pioneer Park, the LMGA met in the Llano History Museum.   Sandy Shaw, president, welcomed all the guests and thanked everyone for bringing food, wine and especially the park workers.   Each of them was recognized.   They included John Collins, Dave and Inell Franks, and Roy Petty.

Disappointment was expressed that Jamie Osbourn, the new County Agent, was unable to attend the dedication.

Lillie Baker, Secretary, stated the minutes could be read online on the website.   Dwight Bonner stated the treasury had $1756.31 as an ending balance for this month.

Cecelia Griffin was presented her name tag and certificate for completing her requirements of certification.

The revised bylaws were passed out and the members were asked to review them before the January meeting, at which time they will be voted.

The slate of new officers was presented.   The group was told anyone could still nominate a candidate for any of the offices or the state could be accepted by acclamation. A motion was made and seconded to accept the slate by acclamation.   The slate of names passed.   They will take office January 1.

The start date of the Master Gardener training was set for March 19, 2008.

The group was reminded about the Christmas dinner/meeting at Sandy Shaw’s house on December 13.   A signup sheet for food and the number of guests each was bring was passed around the group.   The members were also told about the $10.00 plant or plant related item to be used in a Chinese Exchange/White Elephant Gift Exchange.

Norm Millen gave an upbeat presentation of the growth of the small LMG group since its conception summer of 2005.   Some of the progress includes Junior Master Gardener in the school, many parks and public grounds beautified, two Lawn and Garden Shows, one MG training class and another one planned, as well as goodwill that has developed working with and among the citizens of Llano.

Norm’s PowerPoint presentation showed the many public grounds around Llano that have been beautified by the LMGers.   They included the Pioneer Park, the History Museum flowerbed, the Library, the Culture Club.

After his presentation, he presented Sandy Shaw with the Broken Handle Shovel Award, much to her delight and surprise.   Sandy has been an outstanding leader, motivator, diplomat, cheerleader and supporter to each member and for the association.   She was the right person for the right job at the right time.

After restoring the chairs from the meeting room, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted by;

Lillie Baker, Secretary
