Monthly Meeting Minutes

March 2008

Regular Monthly Meeting of Llano Master Gardeners
Thursday, March 19, 2008; 5:30 p.m.
Llano County Extension Office
Betty Nethery, presenter

Welcome to our classmate Betty Nethery whose presentation and demonstration of how to set up a compost tea maker was very well received. Her extensive knowledge of the subject and her love of using the tea will be an inspiration to a few of us.   A full description of the presentation (with pictures!) is presented HERE.   Thank you, Betty.

Business Meeting.

The minutes were presented as being available online.

Projects

Sandy reported that a few volunteers had cleaned up the Library beds in advance of the MG class starting.

Sherry Cole proposed that the Yoder animal center at Fuzzy's corner was in need of a Xeriscape garden area where adopters of new pets could spend time with their choices, at present the area is not very welcoming.

Master Gardeners Training.   The class is proceeding well with a lot of new members.

Treasurers report.

Dwight stated that whilst our funds are in good shape overall, we need to look at how we raise funds in the future.   The lawn and garden show netted a grand total of $13, which for all the effort that went in to planning, was not worth it.   There will be a committee to set budgets and plan future events to realise a better cash return. The members will be Dwight, Sandy, John and Norm.

T Shirts are $12. each and we can get another batch when there are 12 ordered.

L&G show

Norm thanked all the volunteers, some stayed all day.   There were about 150 guests and we ended up with 8 vendors.   In future any expenditures for events of this kind will have to be approved by members of the executive committee as stated in the by-laws.   These members are Norm, Audrey, Dwight and Roy.

Norm presented a little challenge for the audience, to identify one of our members by writing up a description of the persons deeds and challenges in flowery prose.   The MG was Dave Franks. Reminder to keep up with the timesheets and hours and turn them in to Lillie.

Inell presented the Bent Shovel Award to Lisa Miller, praising her dedication to setting up and running our web site.

Next meeting April 17th.

Meeting closed at 7.00 pm.
