Williamson County Cooperative Extension
Turfgrass & Landscape Demonstration

The trip to the Williamston County Extension Office was intended as a make-up class for those of the Master Gardeners who had missed a class, but many of us wouldn't have missed the opportunity to view this facility.   Our guide was experienced and knowledgeable, had planted many of the specimens and tended them personally so was able to answer our many questions.   We were provided with a landscape map of the grounds and were able to identify our favorites, as well as providing a shopping list for our landscape plans.

Home landscaping is emphasised, though any of the plantings can be used in a variety of situations.   Plants are grouped according their needs for sun exposure, water and nutrients.   A great deal of attention is paid to composition using color, form, height and variety.   A nice little bonus is the wildlife that watches from the safety of the trees.   "I'll be very quiet and they won't see me."   She didn't blink, not once.

Donated turfgrass, landscape trees, shrubs and ornamental plants are cared for at the facility, which is the only one of its kind in the state.   Its experimental turfgrass, shrub and ornamentals trials make it a valuable resource for home, landscaping, farming and sports applications.
